Four former Mrs. America contestants are accusing the pageant's white co-founder and president of making racist remarks at the 2018 Mrs. America competition in Las Vegas in August.

The women, three of whom are African-American and one who is white, detailed the allegations in a press conference on Monday, alongside their lawyer, Gloria Allred.

Mrs. Delaware Kimberly Phillips, Mrs. New Jersey Crissy Timpson,  Mrs. Ohio Jeri Ward  and Mrs. Missouri Brandy Palacios accused co-founder David Marmel  of using the N-word and making racist stereotypes.

The women said Marmel made comments that black women "need to stop having so many babies" and black men "need to stop shooting each other."

Thompson said that Marmel accused black men of being "drug dealers, incarcerated in jail, you are on welfare and killing each other."

They also allege that he said the N-word multiple times, first referring to signs that were up when he used to play baseball in the 1960s that said "no Jews or (expletive) allowed," and later saying that his former Ebony Magazine coworkers gave him a pass to say the N-word "because they were brothers."

Palacios said that Marmel claimed that the Ebony newsroom was "one of the most racist places" he worked.

The women also said that Marmel rolled up his shirt sleeve to compare his skin tone to those of the African American contestants.

"We ask (Marmel) to acknowledge what they allege that he said, take responsibility for it and apologize to them," Allred said at the start of the press conference. "My clients have no plans to file a claim or a lawsuit or to seek damages. They simply want to Mrs. America pageant to be a place where everyone is respected, is treated equally and feels safe."
